As part of a new 10-year housing action plan, Burnaby is updating their zoning bylaws to permit more housing diversity with a new R1 Small-Scale Multi-Unit Housing District classification. This will allow the construction of 3 to 6 dwelling units on all lots zoned for single- and two-family uses in small-scale multi-unit housing, including properties without lanes. Permitted housing types to be built at the rear of a lot include multiple and semi-detached laneway homes, and laneway homes with secondary suites.
